SWANAGE

As promised I now have a follow up on the overnight parking for camper/motorhomes in Swanage.

As from 1st April for £5 per night, from 6pm - 9am, motorhome/campers will be able to park in the Main Beach Car Park, Victoria Road AND the North Beach Car Park, Bon Accord Road.   They must park within the marked bays - an attendant will advise if he is on duty. There will be a maximum stay of 24 hours - the daytime charges £1 per hour.

I think it would be a good thing to mention to everyone that they should not park in the residential streets in Swanage as there has been a real battle to get this overnight parking set up.  There should be no need for anyone to park for any length of time where they will not be welcome.  I know it costs £1 an hour in the car parks during the season, but surely they will be able to visit other places before returning for the night at one of the car parks mentioned above.  This will encourage the residents to be more welcoming and to see the benefit of allowing motorhome/campers into Swanage

Unfortunately it will only take a few to ruin it for the majority - lets hope this will not happen.

Just to let you know had a 'reccy' to Swanage this weekend.  Went to Main Beach Car Park could not find any specific bays for motorhomes, only coaches only.  Car Park attendants were there so asked the question.  They said park by the bins and you would only need to buy one ticket, but when we went to look at this, the spaces were no bigger than the others, they did say that the local council were trying to bring in overnight parking but they did not know it had started.

There are spaces in the North Beach CP but quite a walk back to the town centre, especially if you are disabled as my husband is and Swanage isn't very disabled friendly as many of the road crossings do not have drop down kerbs if you use a mobility scooter.
